In 1935, teenager Billy Bathgate is drawn into a new and dangerous world when he becomes the protege of fledgling gangster Dutch Schultz. As Billy learns what it means to stand close to a rising criminal figure, he also experiences first love, leaving him caught between youthful discovery and the pull of a life shaped by power, loyalty, and risk.
