When 11-year-old Riley is uprooted from her Midwest home and moves to San Francisco, she struggles to adjust to an unfamiliar new life. Inside her mind, Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness try to guide her through the transition, but their teamwork is tested when Joy and Sadness get lost and must find their way back through strange inner places.
