In 1983 small-town Virginia, a socially awkward family faces everyday disasters involving bad hair, adolescence, and the desperate need to fit in. At the center is a 13-year-old girl starting at a new school, where bullies make life harder after a hairstyle goes terribly wrong. As life-altering permanents and poorly made toupees cause more trouble, daily survival becomes a comedy of embarrassment.
