Jaime Escalante teaches mathematics at a school in a Hispanic neighbourhood, where many of his students are dismissed as gang members or no-hopers. Believing they are capable of far more, he uses unconventional methods to push them beyond expectations and prepare them for the demanding Advanced Placement calculus exam, aiming to turn overlooked teenagers into top algebra and calculus students.
