Superman chooses to give up his powers so he can build a life with Lois Lane, not realizing that his actions have helped free three dangerous Kryptonian criminals. Led by General Zod, the fugitives join forces with Lex Luthor and set out to conquer Earth. With the planet under threat, a depowered Superman must find a way to regain his strength and face them.
