In post-WWI Copenhagen, a young factory worker is left unemployed and pregnant, with few options for survival. She is taken in by Dagmar, a charismatic older woman who runs an underground adoption agency, and begins helping with the operation. As an unexpected bond forms between them, the young woman’s fragile sense of security is threatened by a disturbing discovery about the work around her.
