Four Chinese American women and their mothers, who were born in feudal China, confront the histories that have shaped their lives and their families. Through a series of flashbacks, the women look back at the past in search of answers, gradually revealing the complicated bonds between mothers and daughters and the experiences that continue to influence how they understand one another.
