Bruno Pradal, a French waiter living in New York City, accidentally witnesses a murder and is quickly drawn into danger. Pursued by one of the assassin’s henchmen and pressured by the police, he flees back to France and returns to his native village. But the place he hopes will offer safety becomes another trap, as fear and cowardice around him leave him increasingly isolated.
