Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman, has gone nearly three months without a catch, leaving him down on his luck and facing another uncertain day at sea. His long dry spell breaks when he hooks a gigantic marlin far out in the Gulf Stream, but the powerful fish pulls him farther from shore. Alone on the water, Santiago struggles to hold on and bring in the catch that could change his fortunes.
