After building a successful dry-cleaning business, George Jefferson moves with his wife, Louise, and their son Lionel from working-class Queens to a luxury Manhattan apartment. In their new high-rise world, George and Louise adjust to wealth, status, and neighbors who do not always see things their way, while their sharp-tongued maid Florence adds another source of friction at home.
